Immorality among female students in Nigerian Tertiary Institutions is a disturbing trend that is on a geometric increase and needs urgent attention.
On daily basis, breaking news on incidents of immoral display of attitude from female students on campuses always make headlines.
There is no doubt many, don’t care about their family background, but rather think about the material things achieved from their immoral displays.
Nigerian universities today are seen by individuals as a place where students come to obtain a first-class certificate on immoral behaviors.
In this article, Afroeden have outlined few decadent behaviours which are commonly seen among female students in our tertiary institutions.
Prostitution Among Female Students
There is an increase in prostitution among female students in higher institutions in Nigeria today. Many would say that it is because of the economic situation of the country, that pushed them into the business. But on the other hand, it is purely a personal decision.
The fact that so many female students cannot withstand their interest in material things, makes the business the easiest way to satisfy their needs. Today prostitution is no more a shameful business for students. They are now proud and confident in it. Having in mind that, at the end of the year, they will sort all their courses and make first-class results. While the intelligent ones obtain a second class.
Sexcapades in Nigerian Tertiary Institutions
Sexual recklessness among youths in Nigerian tertiary institutions is a trend on an alarming increase as well. Aside from prostitution, these young adult girls engage in unimaginable sexual escapades; same-sex, heterosex, orgies and all what not. Most of them are caught in the web of their excesses. There has been several reports of students dying as a result of sexual exhaustion. Few examples are:
- 2019: The Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) students that died having a foursome
- 2020: Another two students, Cynthia Obieshi and Samuel Osuji of Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, Owerri, Imo State, died while having a rompy weekend
- 2021: In another scenario, a member of the Nigerian Army murdered a female student of Niger Delta University (NDU), Amassoma, Bayelsa State for allegedly cheating on him
Sex For Grade in Nigerian Tertiary Institutions
This is the most despicable of them all. Everybody blames the lecturers in Tertiary institutions for awarding grades based on sexual submission. But we fail to check the roles of some female students who are claim to be victims of these acts. The majority of female students in Nigerian Tertiary Institutions spend little or no time studying, but spend more time chatting on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and WatsApp. They see Telemundo and BBnaija with the hours that should have been invested into studying. And after all these, many of these female students opt to give their bodies in exchange of unmerited grades.
Smoking And Abuse Of Drugs
The rate of smoking and abuse of drugs, among female students in Nigerian Tertiary Institutions is alarming. The prevalence of prostitution, sexual recklessness, and sex for grades can be linked to drug abuse. Most of these female students abuse drugs and other harmful substances which spurs them into the inimical behaviours outlined above. On the other hand, other students resort to drug abuse as an escape route from depression brought on by these wrongful behaviours.
Many female students confessed to smoking, drinking and taking drugs regularly. They also confessed that it helps them engage in other nefarious acts. The most shocking thing here is, majority of female students smoke and drink, and still pretend to be good girls when they go back to their parents house. They can be likened to monsters in sheep clothing.
Abortion
Most female students are married in school but single in their parents’ house. While in school they live with men and have sex on a daily. In the course of doing this, most of them commit abortion(s). This is because the male students are not ready to take up the responsibility of being a father and so abortion is the only way out.
Female students abuse after-sex pills and other contraceptives daily following their daily involvement in premarital sex. They can’t do without it, but they can’t hold on to its result.
Clubbing, Strip Work, And Wearing Immoral Dressing To School
There are clubhouses around Tertiary institutions where strippers strip naked for customers. The majority of these strippers are female students in different schools. They receive good pay for this work, and this makes it lucrative for students to practice. Clubbing is a weekly routine for most female students who see it as a way to enjoy life and show off.
These female students attend club parties during the night and come back early in the morning. Sometimes they go to school and dose off in class while lectures are ongoing. Club life is an ill habit that is prevalent among many female students in school. No matter their income, they strive to meet up with demands of the nightlife.
From clubbing, many female students get connected to criminality, thuggery, and all manner of a reckless lifestyle. These actions backfire at them when they eventually graduate and eventually get into the job world, they will find it difficult to save up and also manage their lives well.
Indecent Dressing
Indecent dressing is another canker-worm that has eaten deep into the lives of female students in Nigerian tertiary institutions. Dresses like, Spaghetti, mini skirts, short gowns, leggings, push-up bra and crop tops with a wider opening on the chest region. There is also the Show tummy which exposes the belly region, and the transparent black and white tops that are trending in schools. Female students wear such clothes without minding how it affects male students and lecturers alike.
Any female student who wear decent clothes to school is bullied and christened “Old-School”.
EndNote:
The morally decadent lifestyle of female students come with a lot of after effects. They face challenges of not getting married or challenges of not being able to stay in one marriage, after their reckless lifestyles in school.
Having graduated with poor grades or good grades that they can’t defend, these students find it difficult to fit into to society. They can’t secure and keep a good job because they are misfits.
Majority of these female students have lost their wombs to abortions and abuse of after sex pills. The worst part is that they don’t even notice what they have put themselves into until marriage sets in, then childbearing become a case. These problems occur as a result of their reckless lifestyles back in school.
