The reality show loved by the majority of Nigerian youths has also met widespread criticism because of its raunchy and high level of obscenity. Most people believe that the big brother Naija show has loads of negative effects on Nigerian youths.
Before outline these effects, it is important to first unveil the #BBNaija Season 6 Big Brother Housemates, delineate the origin of the BBNaija Reality show, highlighting its activities starting from its many years of existence.
The Origin Of Big Brother Nigeria
Big brother Nigeria is a Television Reality Show, which started in 2006 as Big Brother Africa. The show is created by Endemol. It is right to say that since 2006 the show started, it was the 2016 episode of the show that shot the reality show into the limelight. The 2017 episode had Efe as its winner. Within this period, little attention was given to the show by viewers from Nigeria, making its activities not so popular and understood properly then.
The Effects Of 2017 BBNaija Episode On Nigerian Citizens
The 2017 edition of Big Brother Nigeria had too many dramas that went on in the house. But the most interesting and catchy drama that sent out a negative signal to viewers was the nakedness of T Boss, who was one of the house members in the house. She came out without any top on one of the occasions.
Many Nigerian citizens sighting this obscene scene expressed worries that the impact will be so bad on tender minds. Some citizens stood against it immediately by voicing out through the social media platforms, calling on Federal Government to examine the activities of the show very well or better still ban it.
The winner of the 2017 show Efe, brought out a slogan “Based on Logistics” that helped to sell the show more. Most fans got enticed by the word and longed to see the owner of the slogan more. This made the show receive more viewers and audiences.
After the 2017 Big Brother Nigeria season, the reality show went on to produce Big Brothers 2018 season which Miracle won, and the 2019 season which produced Mercy Eke as the first female winner of BBNaija.
The Big Brother Nigeria Lockdown Season
The Big Brother Season 5 had one of the 60 million Naira star prices for the winner of the show. The show had the highest views because of the lockdown as a result of the COVID-19 Pandemic. There were many notable incidents that occurred during the lockdown season which were of interest to the citizens.
Some of such picturesque trends were:
- The voracious eating habit of Eric;
- Romantic nature of Lilo which led to her untimely eviction;
- The classy disposition of Nengi;
- Loverboy energy of Ozo;
- Neo’s fresh boy strategy;
- Vee’s lovely voice and loud behaviour;
- Dorathy’s Full chest anthem;
- Lucy and Wathoni’s problematic interactions;
- Brighto’s pastor style;
- Praise soft movement;
- Ka3na the boss lady of the house;
- Kidwayas charismatic habit;
- Erica’s hot temper and lastly;
- Laycon’s witty behaviour.
All of these and more made the show a remarkable one.
The BBNaija Reunion Show
The Big Brother Nigeria REUNION is an aftermath show off the main BBNajia event. During the reunion, all house members are brought together with the aim of amending any long-standing misunderstandings amongst members of the house. The reunion show also paves way for the next edition.
The 2020 House Reunion Show, brought out hidden scenes which were not hitherto captured during the Big Brother main show. These behind the scene actions range from sexual affairs between Praise and Ka3na, oral sex (Blowjob) between Dorathy and Brighto.
These revelations made the Reunion Show interest for fans of the show, as many people were shocked by the behavior of some of the house members, which they held in high esteem.
With all these disclosures coming open on national TV, the show has gained more popularity and a wider audience to its fanbase. In a similar vein, the show has gained more critics than praise for its name.
Effects Of The Bbnaija Show On Nigerian Citizens
The Big Brother Nigeria show has negatively affected Nigerian youths more than it did positively. The show has promoted a wild lifestyle including nudity, sex on National TV, and unmerited gifts from poor Nigerians who stand as fans to different house members. These fans also spend their worthwhile time watching the reality show for three months. They sit from morning to night moping at their screens and also spend their hard-earned money to vote for their favourite house member.
Nudity
Most Nigerians want to imitate the western ways of life without respecting the African culture and tradition.
Nudity in public by a full-grown lady or man is seen as obscene and taboo in African society.
The African values remain sacrosanct and indelible in the minds of all Nigerians.
Decency is one of the family upbringings that is held in high esteem. Once a child is 10 and above, their respect for their privacy starts manifesting gradually. But it is so unfortunate that this Reality Show is fast eroding the values which were initially instilled in the minds of Nigerian youths.
It is common to see an average youth trying to model their life after one of the housemates.
Sex On National TV
This is one of the highest immoral behaviour, any individual can perform. Engaging in sexual activities on National TV is very different from what we see in the movies.
Sexual scenes in movies are adequately censored and directed to teach moral lessons. But the BBNaija show is hardly censored and has shown where housemates were having sex, while viewers watched.
The organisers of the show rightly warned that the show is not suitable for people below 18. But even at that, is it morally right for anyone, no matter how mature, to display such an altitude on National TV?
Ebuka the host, as an A man can never allow his child to act such on National TV. But since it is not his business, he only hosts and gets his money that’s all.
